Students will receive their Battle books and teams on Tuesday. They are responsible for reading their one assigned book, but the more books they read, the more they'll be able to help their team. They should return their books to school as soon as they're done in order to exchange for a new one. If they finish their assigned book over break, students can check out the other books from the public library or read the ebooks. Students may also listen to the audiobooks, and parents can read the books aloud. The first Battle of the Books competition will take place on Tuesday, January 28, so it would be advantageous to read some over the break. :) I think these books are really great and I'm excited to hear how they like them. The four selections for 5th grade are: Refugee by Alan Gratz The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora by Pablo Cartaya The Inquisitor's Tale: Or, The Three Magical Children and Their Holy Dog by Adam Gidwitz A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park Highlights from last week included making gingerbread houses with our first grade buddies and the Hour of Code.
