The kiddos aced their class today- Childhood 101: How to Build a Blanket Fort. :) The blanket fort reading was awesome. You couldn't hear a peep except for the crackling fire. They read for over an hour straight and got a great start on their new books. Keep up the reading over break!

Students will receive their Battle books and teams on Tuesday. They are responsible for reading their one assigned book, but the more books they read, the more they'll be able to help their team. They should return their books to school as soon as they're done in order to exchange for a new one. If they finish their assigned book over break, students can check out the other books from the public library or read the ebooks. Students may also listen to the audiobooks, and parents can read the books aloud. The first Battle of the Books competition will take place on Tuesday, January 28, so it would be advantageous to read some over the break. :) I think these books are really great and I'm excited to hear how they like them. The four selections for 5th grade are: Refugee by Alan Gratz The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora by Pablo Cartaya The Inquisitor's Tale: Or, The Three Magical Children and Their Holy Dog by Adam Gidwitz A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park Highlights from last week included making gingerbread houses with our first grade buddies and the Hour of Code. 12/7/2019 0 Comments Week of: December 9-13Religion:

Battle of the Books is coming soon! The teachers have taken over the Battle of the Books competition this year and we're excited to get started. The books are ordered and will be distributed next week before Christmas break. The first battle, between our 5th grade class, will take place during Catholic Schools Week, most likely on Tuesday, January 28. Each student is responsible for reading one of the four books; however, the more books they read, the more they can help their team. The kiddos and I have decided to have a pajama/blanket fort building day next week to get a comfy start on the reading! I will let you know the details and exact date soon. Any of the battle books can be used for their 3rd quarter Book Project book. I want to extend a big thank you to the class for helping me celebrate my birthday this week and for the gifts. They surprised me and I'm very appreciative! These kiddos make me smile every day. They are an absolute joy to teach and I'm so blessed. A few of last week's highlights included a final goodbye to our block teacher, Miss Crowl, a morning of serving at Loaves and Fishes, and a cool science experiment investigating the properties of water. 11/30/2019 0 Comments Week of: December 2-6 Religion:
